If you are caring for an elderly loved one a major issue you may be having is keeping them socially active. If your loved one is unable to get around like they used to and spends a long time by themselves in their home, then an Adult Day Care program might be a good option for them. The VA provides adult day care programs for veterans.

What Services are Offered?

Primarily veterans are able to go to these programs for social activities. They are a way for elderly vets to get out and speak with peers, have group support and recreation as well.

Day care services can also be used if veterans are isolated during the day or their primary care provider has other activities during the day such as work. In cases like this the veterans program might combine with other local or community based programs.

Skilled Nursing

Some programs are able to offer a level of heath care as well. This may differ from program to program services such as skilled nursing, therapy, social work and other needs may be able to be met with day care programs. Since this is not available in every instance, you may need to check into several options for your loved one to see which one matches up best with their needs.
