Gap insurance is there to cover the difference between what Medicare covers and what you, the patient are responsible for paying. For seniors over the age of 65 who fully qualify for Medicare there are quite a few different gap insurance programs for you to choose from. What about those under the age of 65?

Supplemental Insurance

Supplemental insurance that is referred to as Medi-gap insurance is required by federal law to be sold to people over the age of 65. If you are not yet 65 then there is nothing that requires a company to sell this insurance to you. This means you may have to wait until the age of 65 to get the Medi-gap insurance you would like to have. While there are some states that have plans for you to choose from, you may not be in a place that you can purchase one of these plans.

Medicare Advantage

A good solution to this issue is Medicare Advantage insurance. These plans offer low premiums. The also offer the same rates of payment and types of coverage regardless of factors such as age or gender.

There are many Medicare advantage programs depending on where you are at. Many will cover most pre-existing conditions except for End Stage Renal Failure. If you have this condition there are other plans that you can qualify for.

Once you turn 65 you can then enroll in the Medi-gap insurance of your choice.
