Anyone who knows me and who has worked with me knows that I am never one to shy away from helping out for a great cause.  My family and I have been part of the Parma community for decades; I was born here, I went to school here and it’s the hard working members of this community that have taught me some of my most valuable life lessons.

That’s why on a recent sunny Sunday I took part in the annual “Gazebo Gallop” 5K race, benefiting the Parma Food Pantry.

The event was held at the Greenbrier Commons Gazebo as the centerpiece of the course.  I’m proud to say that I was among the top finishers in my division posting a time of 30:55, and says that all-in-all it was a very satisfying day:

What can be better than helping take part in a tremendous community event on a summer day?

What Does Running a 5K Have to Do With Life Care Planning?

You’re probably wondering why I chose to share this here.  Normally, I’m very focused on business, what you may not see as often, is my reflective side.  In so many ways, life is like a 5K run — it’s a matter of preparation, of doing the things BEFORE the run, that help you complete the run.  You don’t have to come in first — but you do want to finish.

Every day I see two kinds of people; those who are ready to prepare for their “run” — that is life after retirement.  They are folks who have worked hard all their lives, who are committed to finishing strong both physically and financially.  And then I see folks who are forced into a “run” or what I call “crisis planning” because of an event that has put their loved one in a nursing home.

The good news is — I’ve done the run for them.  I prepare every day by making sure that I have plans and strategies no matter what circumstance life throws your way.

I always like to say that there is the “law for the informed” and the “law for the uninformed”.  My race and my training is to make sure that you stay informed.

If you haven’t been to one of our FREE workshops where I cover all the details, come on my, I’d love to meet you and see how YOU can be prepared for YOUR run.
