Either the veteran or the veteran’s spouse can be the one to meet the disability requirement for qualifying for the Special Monthly Pension. The amount of the Special Monthly Pension is based on the level of disability. The levels of disability are: aged over 65, Housebound, and In Need of Regular Aid and Attendance.
The amounts of the Special Monthly Pension are as follows:
A veteran aged over 65, but not housebound and not requiring regular aid and attendance
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with no spouse or dependent: $1,021.00 per month.
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with a spouse or one dependent: $1,337.00 per month.
A housebound veteran
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with no spouse or dependent: $1,248.00 per month.
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with a spouse or one dependent: $1,564.00 per month.
A veteran requiring regular aid and attendance
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with no spouse or dependent: $1,703.00 per month.
- Amount of the Special Monthly Pension for veteran with a spouse or one dependent: $2,019.00 per month.
