The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) provides certain VA benefits for Minority Veterans and Servicemembers. African-American, Asian, Hispanic, Native American and other Minority Veterans can get access to benefits such as disability compensation, employment/vocational rehabilitation, health care, loans and pensions.
One such benefit is the Native American Direct Loan Program (NADL), which helps Native American Veterans construct, purchase or make improvements in existing homes on Federal Trust Land. Under this program, an existing VA loan can be refinanced to lower its interest rate, which could result in lower monthly mortgage payments.
Another benefit is access to a Minority Veteran Program Coordinator (MVPC) who advocates on behalf of minority Veterans and works to increase awareness of issues that primarily affect this group of Veterans. Every VA regional office in the country has a MVPC who serves as direct contact person for Minority Veterans who are seeking information on benefits and/or assistance applying for benefits. MVPC’s also provide information on other resources that benefit Minority Veterans.
The VA’s website has information on VA benefits for Minority Veterans. Also, any qualified elder law attorney specializing in VA benefits may also have information on these benefits.
