As much as we hate to admit it, there are awful people who will conduct scams preying on the elderly to make money. These scammers will do anything to separate your elderly loved ones from any amount that they can. Keep your loved ones safe by making them aware of ways that scammers can take advantage of them.

False Reverse Mortgages

While a reputable reverse mortgage is a good way for seniors to get value from any property that they own, there are many scams out there that can affect seniors seeking a reverse mortgage. Many involve the swapping of titles between the home that they own and another, supposedly more valuable property. Make sure that any reverse mortgage company your loved ones are going to deal with are checked out and thoroughly vetted before signing any papers with them.

Medicare and Medicaid Scammers

Scammers know that the elderly are on Medicare and Medicaid. Because of this they will often call seniors posing as representatives of one of these organizations. They will use this ruse to trick seniors into providing personal information or sending money directly to them in the form of payments to a false clinic.

Make sure that your loved ones know never to give out personal information over the phone. Legitimate Medicare or Medicaid representatives will never ask for this type of info. Also make sure that they only pay for care that they have received.
