Services are available in every nearly town to benefit the aging population and those responsible for their care. Locating the services you need may seem like a daunting task, but thanks to the Eldercare Locator Service, a nationwide toll-free assistance directory sponsored by the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging, the information you need may just be a phone call or web search away. Contact information is below, along with a list of services you are likely to find in your own community.

Community Senior Centers

Senior centers can be counted on for companionship opportunities, in addition to social activities, classes, recreational opportunities, volunteer opportunities, flu shots and meals. Senior centers also often offer classes for caregivers, CPR certification, and support groups for caregivers.

Transportation Services

Referrals to community based transportation services can often be acquired through the hotline. Often transportation solutions include escorts for shopping and transportation for visits to the doctor or senior center. These services are often income based.

Companions Programs

Many communities offer friendly visitors that stop by to check on the well-being of independent seniors that may not get outside of the home often. There are also telephone reassurance programs that will call and check on your aging family members and alert you if there is a challenge in reaching them by phone.

Respite Care Providers

Some areas offer referrals to popular services including home health care, adult daycare programs and respite care, all designed to provide relief to caregivers of the elderly.
