Holiday seasonal visits are a good time to look around and see if it might be time to move to an assisted living facility. While we might not want to admit it, eventually the care of a home may become too much for our elderly loved ones. Here are some signs that it might be time to look to a move to assisted living.
Look for Changes in the Home
There can be several indications around the home that are signs it may be time to think about assisted living. First, take a look at the items in the refrigerator or pantry. Are the food items expired? Are there still healthy options or are the cabinets full of cookies and other junk food. Changes in eating habits or overlooking expired food can be an indicator.
Are the chores kept up with? Changes in cleanliness can be an indication that the everyday work around a home is just too overwhelming. A clean, uncluttered home is important for a senior. If they are unable to do this for themselves, it could be an indication that it is time to move to assisted living, where they can be helped.
Changes in Behavior
Make sure that your loved ones are not acting oddly. Can they still communicate clearly and are they aware of the date and current events? Are they dressed properly for the season? These things can be indications that it may be time for them to make the move to assisted living.
