Are you worried about your aging loved ones safety? If they are living at home and aging in place there are some things that you can keep on top of to make sure that your loved ones are not putting themselves in any form of danger.
Proper Medical Care
The first step in keeping aging loved ones safe is ensuring that they are taking care of their health. Make sure that they are seeing a primary care physician regularly. If they have any ongoing conditions, then you want to make sure they are monitoring them carefully and taking the proper medications.
Current laws prevent you from asking their doctors directly for updates on your loved one’s health. Doctors can, with your permission, give you access to medical records. Either way make sure your elderly loved ones are taking care of the following things:
- Regular vision exams to ensure that they are seeing clearly
- They are aware of any potential side effects of medications that they are on
- Any modifications that might need to be made to the home to deal with mobility issues.
- A health care plan to treat any ongoing issues
Keeping Aging Loved Ones Safe at Home
Making sure that your loved ones have a safe living environment is also critical. Check to make sure that the HVAC system is functioning properly to keep the house warm in the winter. Also make sure that daily chores are kept up with and their home is clean.
