Once you have narrowed down your list of potential adult day care centers, arrange a visit to each facility. Make sure you come prepared with a list of questions for the staff. The National Adult Day Services Association (NADSA) recommends some good questions that the staff should be readily able to answer, such as:

  • How long this center been in business? Is it licensed or certified?
  • What are the days and hours of operation?
  • What credentials does your staff have?
  • What is the ratio of staff to participants?
  • What types of activities do you offer? Are there individual and group activity programs?
  • Do you provide meals and snacks and if so, do you also accommodate any special diet preferences or needs?
  • How much do you charge and what methods of payments do you accept? Is financial assistance available?
  • Do you provide rehabilitative services such as occupational or physical therapy?
  • Do you provide transportation to and from the center?
  • Which medical conditions are and are not accepted? Do you provide specialized care for conditions such as memory loss or TBI?

In addition to these questions, don’t hesitate to ask any other questions you feel necessary to help you make the best choice of adult day care center for your loved one.
