Nobody likes to move out of the home that they have made for themselves. As you or your loved ones age, it might be time to take a look to see if staying in your home is the best decision. There are several things to look at when trying to determine if continuing to live in your home is a good idea.
Home Safety
Consider the condition of the home first. Is it in good repair and has maintenance been kept up? As times goes by, is home repair and upkeep going to be an issue or can it be taken care of? Is the neighborhood safe and healthy for an aging senior?
Floor Plan
Does the floor plan meet the mobility of the person living there? Is there a long main staircase that needs to be navigated daily or is everything on the same floor with easy access.
Meals and Housekeeping
Is preparing a daily meal going to be something that is easily handled, or are there services available that can deliver meals to the home? Are the normal cleaning needs of the house able to be met by the person living there, or at least by someone who can come in to do it?
Driving
Is transportation to doctor appointments, grocery stores and other needs going to be met? If not, are there services available to meet those needs? Consider the area and how far away all of those places are from the house.
