The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) established the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program as part of their commitment to ending Veteran homelessness by the end of 2015. Under this program, $300 million will be awarded to 301 community agencies in all 50 states. This will allow these agencies to provide grants for supportive services for low-income Veteran families who are or may become homeless. These grants are expected to assist over 100,000 Veterans who are homeless or are facing homelessness.
The SSVF Program will provide a broad range of services, including:
- Assistance obtaining VA benefits
- Case management
- Credit counseling
- Employment training
- Financial assistance with moving expenses, rent, security deposits, utility costs and deposits, transportation and emergency services
- Housing counseling and helping
- Legal assistance
- Mediating with property owners regarding issues with obtaining or retaining housing
- Representative payee services
