You hear the news stories and alerts all too often: a confused elderly person is missing, having wandered away from home when a caregiver was absent. Or news about a wandering dementia patient found miles from home. It happens, and for many people with loved ones that are having memory issues, it’s our greatest fear.

Inventors have devised an innovative shoe that has a GPS tracking device built into the sole. The device allows you to track where your loved one is at all times via an app for your phone or tablet. It also can be set to send you alerts if your loved one leaves the home.

While the price tag may seem a little steep at $300 per pair, for many with elderly loved ones that wander, the price is worth it. The GPS shoes can be a huge relief for those that have a loved one living independently or with an elderly spouse that may not have constant supervision.

In addition to the purchase price of the shoes, there is typically an activation fee and monthly maintenance fee for the GPS monitoring service.

What are your thoughts? Worth it, or not?
