Are you considering purchasing long term care insurance? It seems like it is a great idea considering the increasing costs of long term care. You may want to think again, or at least be aware of just what your long term care insurance is going to cover. You may find you don’t have the security you thought you did.

All Policies are not Created Equal

There are wide variations in what long term care policies will cover. If you purchase one without reading the fine print, the bargain that you got on the premium might seem like a horrible mistake. Make sure you know just what your policy is going to cover so that you are not taken by surprise when you submit charges you thought were covered that is not.

Policies are Complicated

Whether it is intentional or not, long term care polices can be very complicated and difficult to understand. They can be very heavy with jargon, legal terms and clauses. If you are not able to understand exactly what your policy is going to cover you may want to have an elder law expert look at your policy before you sign.

Excluded Care

Healthcare is always changing and getting better. Many long term care policies will not cover newer forms of treatment. Even rather simple things like adult day care may not be covered by your long term care policy.
