If you or a loved one are an elderly veteran who receiving a pension, you may be able to take advantage of some additional programs that offer assistance to vets. These are for veterans who may be in a nursing home or aging at home and need additional care.

Aid and Attendance (A&A)

This is a program that can add funds to your current pension if you fall into one of the following categories:

  • Vets who are in a nursing home due to some form of incapacity either mental or physical.
  • Vets who are bedridden on doctor’s orders and must remain in bed due to treatment or as part of a diagnosis.
  • Vets who require aid from another person to do everyday tasks. These are typically things like eating, taking a bath, dressing, cooking or even help remaining safe in your home.
  • Vets who’s eyesight is a corrected 5/20 or less in both eyes or who have contraction of field of view to 5 degrees or less

Housebound

This is a program for disabled veterans. Veterans whom, because of a disability, are confined to their home or have very limited access to anything outside their home can collect this benefit. This must be a permanent disability.
