As a veteran or the spouse of a veteran, you may be entitled to quite a few benefits that you are not aware of. If your financial situation requires that you seek out alternate benefits for essential things like long term care, medical benefits or other necessities you may want to look into these benefits programs for seniors.

Aid and Attendance

Aid and Attendance is a program that provides veterans with a way to pay for long term care for them and their spouses. If the veteran has served during wartime and meets certain asset and income limits they may qualify for this program. The program provides an additional monthly pension for use in long term care and other health related costs.

Low Cost Long Term Care

If finding a long term care or assisted living facility is an issue, look at ones operated by the VA. The VA has many homes that are used exclusively for assisted living and care of veterans. These homes over highly discounted rates for vets as well as excellent levels of care. Veterans and their spouses may qualify, but be aware that waiting lists can be long; so think ahead if you may need to access this benefit.

Burial and Memorials

Qualifying veterans may apply for assistance with burial or cremation costs. They can also be interred in a national cemetery.
