One of the hardest things to face with an elderly loved one is the decline of mental function. There are many diseases that can affect the normal cognitive functioning of a person including dimension or Alzheimer’s disease. Knowing the warning signs of these diseases can help you recognize when your elderly loved one needs help.

The Onset of Symptoms

One of the most difficult things about mental decline is that it can happen very gradually. So gradually that unless you are around the person every day it can be difficult to pick up on. Unfortunately many of these diseases can be slowed by an early detection. That is why picking up on them as soon as you can be critical for treatment.

Disruptive Memory Loss

This can be simple things like forgetting to eat, take pills or bathe. It can also become more serious like leaving ovens, stoves or other dangerous devices turned on and not recalling that they were on.

Loss of Time

Memory lost about the date, time and year. This can even show up as phone calls in the middle of the night where your loved ones thinks it’s the middle of the afternoon or bills being paid multiple times in the same month.

Issues with Problem Solving

This could be a simple as figuring out how to clear an error on the microwave.
