As more and more elderly Americans need to use long term and assisted living facilities the costs keep increasing. If you are or an elderly loved one are looking at having to move into one of these care facilities you may be wondering if there is any assistance that might be available to you outside of Medicaid; particularly if you do not qualify.

Veterans’ Pension for Assisted Living

If you or your spouse is a veteran of the US Armed Forces then you may qualify for assistance under the Aid and Attendance Benefit. This program can provide up to $2000 per month if you qualify. There is a rather lengthy list of requirements that you may have to work your way through to check for eligibility. In the end it can be a very helpful program for senior veterans that need help for assisted or long term care.

Non-Medicaid State Programs

While all states offer Medicaid for those who need it, many states offer additional assistance as well. States are beginning to recognize that increasing costs in care as well as diminishing savings and increased need are requiring them to address the issue. Many states have begun to offer additional assistance along with Medicaid or outside of it for seniors who do not qualify. Check with your state to see what might be available.
